Winscombe 3’s 10 Nailsea & Backwell 2’s 39

After last weeks 16 try success at home, N&B travelled to Winscombe in high spirits for this second Somerset North Division 3 League Match.

In wet and windy conditions rugby was always going to be difficult and an early mistake by N&B allowed Winscombe to score first.  This awoke N&B who from a secured scrum, moved the ball blind, where a strong line break by Matt Stone allowed him to offload to Ben Cleave who scored in the corner.

Shortly after N&B increased their lead when the ball was moved through hands to Sam Bigley whose long pass found Corey Dougal to dot down.  Winscombe never gave up and midway through the half after some good phases they equalised in the corner.  The remainder of the half was stalemate with a 10-10 half-time score.

N&B started the second half on top and soon increased the try count when Bigley kicked a loose ball through to win the chase to score with Liam Harris adding the extras.

With N&B beginning to control possession and Dec Hay continually running at the defence, N&B sucked in the opposition and when the ball was moved wide Darren Chidzey popped up to control the ball and crash over for the bonus point Try.  Again, Harris added the extras.

With N&B now on the front foot they began to secure ball from forward phases and when Cory Love broke blind Harris was in support to score a try of his own.  With the line-out working well, Matty Thorne and Ben Morris were dominating and when the ball was won and moved wide to Bigley he broke through the defence to score again.

N&B then finished in style when Winscombe, who never gave up, spilled ball on their own 22 allowing Man of the Match Bigley to hack through to score his hatrick.

So a second maximum point 39-10 win to see N&B 2's stay top of the League!
