Senior Rugby:

It’s been a tough few weeks for all three of our senior teams, who due to injuries have had fewer players available resulting in mixed results across the board, however, the support from club members has been phenomenal. This weekend sees the last games before the Christmas break with the following matches: 1st team away to Chosen Hill FP 2nd team home to Oldfield OB’s 3rd team home to St. Bernadette’s OB’s II Come along and support your teams, games kick off at 2pm.

Touch Rugby Update:

Another successful year for the Touch Rugby Club culminated in the annual awards night on Thursday 12th December. As well as celebrating various league wins across the season and our biggest ever membership for 2024/25 year, the following awards were also presented by lead coach Adam Weavers:
1. Male player of the year – Xav Underwood
2. Female player of the year – Hayley Johnson
3. Ravens Relics player of the year – Olly Freeman
4. Most Improved Player – Hamish Henderson
5. Clubman of the Year – Chris Handford
The club celebrated with excellent food and plenty of silly games put together by MC Chris Handford. It was a great opportunity to relax and come together as a playing group before preparations commence for the club’s assault on the Bristol Touch Winter League starting on 13th January and National Competitions later in 2025.

Colts Update:

Nailsea and Backwell Colts celebrated their first win of the season against Minehead Colts on Sunday 15th December, Minehead brought a depleted side to the Nest for the Colt’s last game of the year which meant the game was played with 11 players a side, but across a full pitch. In true spirit of the game Nailsea loaned Minehead players to keep the fixture on, and the game was played at tremendous pace from the first to last whistle. The Colts stuck to strengths of fast running attack and offloaded at every opportunity. The gaps soon came, followed by some excellent tries as the defence started to fire. Minehead (bolstered by several Nailsea players} stuck to their task however and tackled hard throughout and managed some great tries of their own. The final score was 27 – 17 to Nailsea with tries from Connor Broad, George Blessitt, Alfie Davies, Toby Badman and Will Reakes with a conversion from Ben Warren. Man of the Match – Dylan Wright. Post match it was Christmas jumpers and warm food in the Backwell Bar as the lads enjoyed the win with the players from Minehead. They even had a visit from Santa who celebrated with them!!

Polite Notice:

Over the last few home games, it has become apparent that several people are discarding empty plastic pints around the pitches rather than return them to the bar, this weekend over 30 plastic pints were picked up on Sunday morning before the Junior training / matches, including several found floating in the brand new swimming pool (shown bottom right in the main picture) I’d like to remind everyone this is your club, if you see people discarding empty plastic pints, please request they return them to the bar, if this practice doesn’t stop, we will be forced to put a deposit on the plastic pints prior to use for everyone.

Future Events:

Boxing Day the club will be open for a game of Touch(ish) rugby and there will be a raffle with some great prizes. Club opens from 12pm ready for kick off at 1pm, the rugby game is open to all ages and genders, please have your name and age on the board by 12.30pm if you wish to play.

New Year’s Eve The club will be holding a News Years Eve party for the first time in years, there will be music from Corvus & a disco, tickets are £10 for members & £15 for non-members from behind the bar.

Please support these events, get your tickets early & see you all at the Ravens Nest.

Good news story:

We’d like to thank the kind benefactors who gave a cash donation to the club Junior section, this allowed the purchase of some new tackle equipment for which the Junior section is extremely grateful and can be seen below being put to good use.

On behalf of Nailsea & Backwell Rugby Club Committee we would like to thank everyone for their support this year and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and All the Best for 2025.

UP THE RAVENS!
