After last week’s epic match against Yatton it took barely seven minutes for Nailsea to open the scoring against Hornets IIs when Hooker Ryan Barrow barrelled over for a try which was converted by Jamie Elswood. 0-7.

After a similar period of time Nailsea were once again pressurising the Hornets line.  Nailsea Second Row Jack McCormack finding his way to the whitewash.  Elswood adding the extras as part of a tally of seven conversions of the nine tries Nailsea scored during the match.

Scrum Half Jamie Sullivan got the first of his brace of tries to take the scoreboard to 0-21.   Hornets responded by finding a rare hole in the Nailsea ruck defence for their Scrum Half to romp over for a converted try, 7-21.

Approaching the end of the first half, Nailsea brought up the bonus point when Out Half Rob Baker produced an outrageous dummy to waltz over under the posts 7-28.

Jamie Sullivan then collected his second try after being on the end of a break by Flanker Harvey Flower. 7-33.  Hornets however had the last say in the half when they put the ball through several phases for their No 8 to exploit a gap to score a converted try, making it 14-33 at Half Time.

Hornets rallied somewhat at the start of the second half and picked off an interception to score out wide 19-33.  Nailsea responded positively by regaining the restart ball and after a series of attacking phases, prop Will Marley bullocked his way over for his first senior try, carrying several defenders over with him in the process.

Next came possibly the try of the game when a well rehearsed move from the training park was expertly executed.  Ben Perfect came into the line to create the overlap for Wing Harry Marshall to dance over beating two defenders on his way to the line. 19-47.

Then a mirror image of a try in the first half occurred when a break by Jamie Sullivan saw Harvey Flower on the receiving end of the scoring pass for another try converted by Elswood. 19-54.  As full time approached, 14 man Nailsea won a scrum on their own 22m line for Harvey Flower to break the defence and off load to Man of the Match Hooker Ryan Barrow to close the scoring try with a 40m dash to the line making the final score 19 – 54.

This was a comprehensive performance by Nailsea with perhaps still some work to be done in certain areas, which will need to be addressed for next week’s visit of Oldfield Old Boys to the West End Ground.
