Nailsea and Backwell RFC announce 2025/26 coaching set up with new forwards coach Sam Taylor joining Director of Rugby Tony Hill and Chris Hurd, backs coach.
Ravens DoR, Tony Hill said “delighted to have such a superb coaching team. Hurdy is a L3 RFU mentor and educator and just a fantastic person as well as coach. Sam brings his national league rugby and Somerset coaching experience as well as his extensive teaching experience. It’s incredibly exciting”.
Sam added;
‘How does it feel joining the ravens?’
“I'm genuinely excited to be rejoining the Ravens. This is where my rugby journey began as a player, so it's incredibly meaningful to now start my coaching career here as well. I'm really encouraged by the group of players we have and the ambitions we're setting as a team - I truly believe we have what it takes to achieve our goals. It's also been fantastic to see how much the club has progressed both on and off the pitch in recent years, with strong performances in cup competitions and solid league finishes. I'm proud to be part of that continued journey.
‘What brought you to your decision?”
When I was approached about the role, it felt like an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. The players, coaching team, and everyone involved with the club have created such a supportive and driven environment, all focused on pushing the club forward. That ambition and positivity really aligned with my own values and vision for the game - it felt like something I had to be a part of
‘What are you most looking forward to?’
I'm really looking forward to the season kicking off, but also to the hard work that comes with pre-season - it's where the foundations are built. I'm especially excited to help inspire the younger generation of Ravens and support the integration of the Colts as they make the step into adult rugby. On a personal level, it’s going to be great working alongside some of my mates I grew up playing with - that adds a special connection to the journey ahead.
