Nailsea & Backwell win the Gloucester U18’s League (South)!
Following a disrupted start to the season and a number of team withdrawals, N&B RFC Colts overcame a strong (if numerically depleted) Clifton Colts side with a bonus point win to top the Under 18 Gloucester League (South) Division.
With Clifton unable to field a full side, Nailsea & Backwell matched their playing numbers and maintained absolute focus on their objective and game plan. It would have been easy to have allowed the disruption of a reduced-numbers game to upset their structure, but so effective were the Nailsea players in drawing in defenders before taking the ball to the widest extremities of the large Clifton 1st Team pitch that they soon exhausted their Clifton counter-parts who ended the game early with the game already at 45-5 to the Ravens.
Pleasingly, tries came from across the Nailsea team and across the pitch – Nailsea had so many strike runners that the Clifton defence simply wasn’t able to shut them down quickly enough to stop the offload and cover the space.
Nailsea Under 18’s now proceed to the Play Off Final where they will take on the winner of the Under 18 Gloucester League (North) division in April.
Next up for Nailsea is a home match on Sunday 13th March at 14:30 against a strong Dings outfit looking for revenge after Nailsea narrowly beat them on their synthetic turf back in October.
