Nailsea and Backwell RFC under 10’s began their season by welcoming Kingswood RFC to West End Park.

With both squads being well represented there was the opportunity for plenty of game time for all, with four matches played in total.

Nailsea and Backwell settled early nerves with a fine first try of the season and showed that they have taken on board the coaches’ requests for strong, direct running and support.  Kingswood got into the game with a fine solo try and were proving worthy opponents. Nailsea and Backwell showed that they were up for the challenge with some determined defence and were demonstrating how well they have taken to the introduction of ruck and maul for this season.  A fine solo try, and a steal and breakaway rounded off an excellent opening game.

Kingswood began the second game with early tries and some impressive offloading, but Nailsea and Backwell stuck to their tasks and began to get some forward momentum. They were rewarded when Scott Wooldridge went over for a try in his debut match.  A fine effort after only a few weeks of learning the game.  Nailsea and Backwell finished strongly and rounded off the match with a great steal and offload leading to a length of the field try.

The third game saw strong defensive efforts from both sides.  Nailsea and Backwell had to work hard for opportunities, but their application was clear for all to see as their patience and continuity was rewarded with some impressive team tries. In defence, the Ravens continued to work hard and to operate as a unit to limit Kingswood’s opportunities.

The final game saw some thrilling solo tries and determined running from both teams as well as some strong work around the ruck and maul area. As with the previous matches the players competed hard, but in a fine spirit and were a credit to both clubs.

This was a highly encouraging start to the season for the under 10’s who looked comfortable with the new developments that are being brought in and this shone through against well matched opposition. The squad are developing a potent team bond and are clearly enjoying their rugby together.
