Stothert & Pitt II's 21 - 76 Nailsea & Backwell II's
This was the last League game for N&B this season in the know that they can’t catch Clevedon at the top, however the lads were drilled to go out and continue to play the fifteen man rugby which has given them such a good season.
Stotherts came out the blocks quickest and from scrappy N&B defence took the lead with a well taken converted try.
This woke N&B up and they began to dominate up-front. From a series of rucks Scrum Half, James Dibble, chipped over the top to gather and touch down out wide. N&B then took the lead. Corey Dougal gathered a kick through and gained territory before offloading to Josh Le Ouedec who weaved his way over the line allowing Sam Bigley to convert.
Stotherts continued to test N&B and the Ravens were a little sloppy at times allowing a period of stalemate. With the Half nearing its end, N&B won a scrum on their 22 yard line. Fly Half, Bigley, chose to kick open. The kick was gathered by Wing, Reece Hulland, who ran 50m drawing the last defender to offload to Adam Weavers who ran in under the posts. The try was again converted by Bigley.
With their tails up, N&B had just enough time to score the bonus point try. Le Ouedec broke through the defence and when tackled, Sean Marks reacted quickest. Drawing the defence, Marks offloaded to Jack Charman who outpaced the last line to score for a 24-7 lead.
At Half Time the lads were told to tidy up and support each other a little more, but go out hard and finish the game off. They did this in style!
Within 15 minutes, N&B added five further tries to seal the victory.
Firstly, Leo Delazzari crashed over. Next, following good hands, Hulland added a try of his own showing good pace, Bigley converting. Then came the try of the match....
From a secured scrum the ball was moved to Bigley who dummied, beat the first line defence, then offloaded to the sprinting match day Captain, Matt Stone, whose superb running line allowed him to crash through to dot down under the posts. Bigley again added the extras.
Then another Bigley crossfield kick was gathered by Weavers who sprinted on for his second try. Bigley again converting. Corey Dougal was next on the score sheet rounding the defence out wide to touch down.
Stotherts, who never gave up, then added a second try before N&B struck again with Weavers getting his hatrick. The try again converted by Bigley.
Delazzari then added his second try, before Stotherts added a third try. With time almost up, N&B continued to forage. After several rucks on the Stotherts line, it was young colt, Ben Hathaway, who picked up to drive over to score on his senior debut.
This was a performance that started a little scrappy but once N&B established the lead, they dominated at the line out and continually pushed the Stotherts scrum backwards. This gave the pacey N&B backs the opportunity to show off their silky skills.
Man of the match was Jack Charman with another ferocious performance - so solid in defence and always in support and hitting rucks at will.
