Nailsea & Backwell RFC 75 – 3 Chipping Sodbury
The Nailsea and Backwell RFC First Team finished their league season off with an emphatic win against Chipping Sodbury in the hope that back to back promotion could still be on if other results went their way.
The performance wasn’t as clinical as the scoreline suggested with skill errors creeping in as the Ravens knew they needed a bonus point victory. Once Charlie Cox and Nick Badcock scored the opening tries and Alex Jones converted, the Ravens started the 11 try rout.
Lewis Adams-Hoon added the third and good handling from Ben Morris set up Adam Grafton for the bonus point score.
Sodbury got on the board with a penalty but the Ravens were now in the mood.
A tap penalty move saw Captain, Luke Sharp, go over and the try of the game from Ben Perfect was next as he started a mazy 100m run from his own goal line beating four defenders on his way.
Alex Jones added another before Hoon and Perfect collected their brace. Jack McCormick rounded off the scoring from a Cory Love break and Jones kicked 10 from 11 conversions.
Unfortunately, results didn’t go the Ravens way and with one game still to play for rival clubs it appears the Ravens may miss promotion by a single point. Coach Tony Hill said ‘a lot of people will say it was a great season for us and it was, considering we were promoted last year but I / we really believed we were good enough to go up again. It’s small margins and we’ll be ready to go again next season. However, we move on to the National cup competition now on April 1st with a lot of confidence’. The Ravens have been drawn away against Cullompton for this match – details will follow.
