Nailsea & Backwell 2’S 31 st Brendans 2’S 22

After a two week break N&B II's welcomed St Brendan’s II's to the Nest in what was pre-match torrential conditions.

N&B won the toss and choose to play up the hill which is the favoured start. Unfortunately lack of recent game time showed as St Brendan’s started brighter forcing N&B onto the back foot to concede an early Try.

However midway through the half N&B struck back from a secured scrum.  A blindside break allowed youngster Leo Delazzari to score his first senior Try.

St Brendans then nudged further ahead from the kick off when a N&B charged down kicked was moved wide for a Try out wide.  It was again St Brendan’s who had the last say of the half when against the run of play they ran in their third Try for a 17-5 half time lead.

N&B, then playing down the hill, started to play team rugby securing rucks and moving the ball in numbers.  Unfortunately St Brendan’s secured their fourth Try for a 22-5 lead.

This did finally awake N&B who began to dominate possession and from a secured scrum, Ben Cleave broke blind feeding Adam Weavers who ran in to score under the sticks with Dave Price adding the extras.

Further N&B pressure resulted in a poor St Brendans exit which Dave Price gathered, side stepped, and smashed through to score.

With the game in the balance N&B finally took the lead when Ben Perfect smashed through the middle to dot down, allowing Sam Bigley to convert for a 24-22 score line.  N&B then withstood the constant St Brendan’s urge to get back in front and secure the win when after good forward phases down the blindside, Perfect offloaded to Corey Dougal to score, with Bigley converting for a 31-22 victory.

Both teams played with real heart and passion and never gave up in what was a good hard game of Rugby.  N&B never gave up when their backs were against the wall and their never say die attitude resulted in a deserved Win.

Standout performers were youngster Leo Delazzari and Man of the Match on his return from injury, Reece Hulland.
