Nailsea & Backwell 24pts – Burnham 25pts
Nailsea lost their unbeaten home record to a well drilled Burnham side by one point, but take two league points from the game. The match opened positively enough for Nailsea when they went three tries up in 12 minutes. Second Row, Mike Frohlich going over twice, one converted by Josh Collins and Winger, Harrison Gould adding the third. Unfortunately, two quite difficult conversions were missed from out wide which turned out to be crucial at the death.
Unlike Nailsea, Burnham were miserly in giving away possession and managed to shade that statistic over the game. It was felt that given one or two more percentage possession, Nailsea would have engineered the winning score but it wasn’t to be.
At Half Time, the score was 17-15 to Nailsea, but 12 minutes in to the second period, Burnham found good field position and with a series of pick and goes scored under the posts to take the lead 17-22. Five minutes later Burnham added a penalty to stretch the lead to 17-25.
However, the Nailsea lads were not going down without a fight and with two minutes left on the clock a driving maul was set up with Hooker, Ryan Barrow, at its heart, who crashed over to score the bonus point try for Nailsea. The conversation was successful completed by Jamie Elswood to make the score agonisingly close at 24-25.
