A Christmas message from Paul Henley (President) and Darren Chidzey (Chairman) of Nailsea & Backwell RFC.
2021 has been momentous year. With the first half of the year being written off from a rugby perspective due to Covid, we were hugely thankful when September came and our great game could re-start.
Since this point, the club has progressed at all levels:
- We have three senior teams playing league rugby.
- Over 250 junior players participate on a weekly basis, with representation at every age group from Under 6 to Under 18s.
- Socially, the club has started to recover. Who could forget the massively successful Fireworks Display where nearly 4,000 people came to enjoy the show.
We cannot provide this message without also referencing a couple of extra-ordinary sporting highlights – The First teams victory in the clubs first ever cup final in October (and the incredible support that travelled to Lockleaze for this match), and the amazing ‘perfect streak’ the team are currently on in the league. It is hugely pleasurable for our First team to enter the Christmas Break both top of the Somerset Premier Division and unbeaten this season (and our two other teams competitive in their divisions).
2022 is another huge year for our Club as it is our 50th Anniversary. Details will follow on how we will mark this special occasion, but it will hopefully be a year to remember!
In the meantime, we would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all our members, supporters, players, coaches, friends and families. You have been with us throughout a strange and difficult period and we appreciate this hugely.
We wish you a fabulous Christmas, a very Happy New Year, and look forward to seeing you in 2022 for our 50th Year, and hopefully continued success on and off the pitch.
Up The Ravens!
